CaseStudy_2D vs 3D digital - CancerDiagn

3D Mammography

2D Digital Mammography is currently the most common method

used to detect breast cancer. However research shows it can miss some cancers and produce false positives, leading to further testing and unnecessary anxiety.

Valley Radiology is now offering 3D Mammography (Breast Tomosynthesis). It  is a revolutionary way of viewing Digital Breast Imaging  especially in women with dense breast tissue. Offered at our Escondido and Poway locations. 3D Mammography has many benefits, including:

  • Detects 41% more invasive cancers

  • Reduces false positives, decreasing recall rates by up to 40%

  • May reduce the number of unnecessary biopsies

  • Increases cancer detection in women with dense breasts

How to Prepare For Your

3D Mammogram:

  • Dress in a comfortable two-piece outfit

mammograms not performed at our facilities

  • Bring your referral form from your doctor, your
insurance card, and a picture ID

What To Expect At Your Exam:

Getting a 3D mammogram is the same process as getting a conventional 2D mammogram. The technologist will position you, compress your breast, and take images from different angles. There is no additional compression required with the 3D mammogram. It only takes a few extra seconds and has been proven to be more accurate that conventional 2D mammograms.
